This post is a quick & brief explanation of what is SEO as I find myself talking about it in every conversation I have these days, so why not blog about it!
SEO stands for ‘Search Engine Optimization’. I find the best way to understand what ‘Search Engine Optimization’ means is to flip it around & think about it as ‘Optimization for Search Engines’.
SEO generally refers to the things you are doing to optimize your website for appearing in searches on search engines (such as Google). Think about it as basically, how close to the top your business will appear in the results page when someone searches goods or services that you provide. For example, if you are an auto repair shop & someone in your area searches ‘where to get my car serviced’ the hope is your shop will appear at the top or close to it in the results. That way your shop is among the first options the searcher sees & in turn, calls for service.
Search engines like Google return results based on relevancy to the search terms. So websites that have been ‘optimized’ for search engines have taken steps to make themselves most relevant to common searches for their goods & services. These steps are things like researching key words & making sure those key words appear on their website, using social platforms, like Facebook & Twitter, &creating links between their sites and other relevant websites. But these are just a few of the many, many, many things contribute to SEO, all of which we will save for another post (this was suppose to be brief after all!).
